Governor Greg Abbott has sent a letter to the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD) expressing concern over the New Jersey Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ (CAIR NJ) sponsorship of the 2026 Houston Islamic Games, which are scheduled to take place at public school facilities.

“It has come to my attention that Bridgeland High School intends to offer public school facilities to host the 2026 Houston Islamic Games,” Governor Abbott wrote. “Be aware I recently designated ‘the Muslim Brotherhood and its successor organization CAIR’ as foreign terrorist organizations and transnational criminal organizations under state law. You cannot invite such dangers through the front doors of our schools. Texans deserve immediate action to curb the spread of Islamic extremism, and public facilities funded by their tax dollars will not be utilized to host terrorist related groups.”

The Governor instructed CFISD to immediately preserve all records and communications related to this event and required confirmation within seven days that any negotiations or agreements for hosting have been terminated. If CFISD does not comply, Abbott stated he would direct the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to seize district employee communications about CAIR, uncover any attempts to conceal CAIR’s involvement, and review agreements or financial statements concerning the proposed event. The TEA would then refer its findings to the Texas Attorney General for potential legal action.

Governor Abbott’s office leads state government efforts in areas including economic development, education enhancement, border security, and community initiatives. More information about his role can be found on the official website.

In addition to this recent directive, Governor Abbott listed several actions taken against CAIR and similar organizations: requesting U.S. Secretary Bessent suspend CAIR’s tax-exempt status; directing DPS to investigate both CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood; designating these entities as foreign terrorist organizations; and ordering investigations into Sharia Courts.
