Governor Greg Abbott has informed the Texas Legislature of changes to two items on the agenda for Special Session #2. The updates focus on law enforcement protections and election procedures.

According to Governor Abbott, the revised agenda includes legislation designed to shield law enforcement officers from having unsubstantiated complaints and certain information in agency files made public. Another legislative item addresses election procedures, specifically concerning voters whose residence address is not current and how voter registration takes effect after registrars receive specific change of address notices.

“Legislation that protects law enforcement officers from public disclosure of unsubstantiated complaints and other information maintained in law enforcement agency files,” Governor Abbott stated. He added, “Legislation relating to election procedures regarding accepting a voter with a residence address that is not current and the immediate effect of a voter’s registration after the registrar’s receipt of certain change of address notices.”

These updates come as part of ongoing efforts by state leadership to address issues related to public safety and electoral integrity.
