Governor Greg Abbott has expanded the agenda for Special Session #2 of the Texas Legislature to address public safety and election security. In a message sent today, Governor Abbott outlined two new legislative priorities for consideration.

The first item is legislation that would prohibit same day voter registration in Texas. The second item involves authorizing contracts with sheriffs and constables for law enforcement services, as well as legislation concerning the appropriation or transfer of funds to or from a law enforcement agency.

“Legislation to prohibit same day voter registration in Texas,” stated Governor Abbott. He also added, “Legislation authorizing contracts with sheriffs and constables for the provision of law enforcement services and legislation relating to the appropriation or transfer of funds to or from a law enforcement agency.”

These additional items are part of ongoing efforts by state leaders to address concerns about both election integrity and support for law enforcement operations.
